For centuries many have perceived a strong bond between the work of the Spirit and artistic creativity. Talk of inspiration, spirituality, and the life of the spirit abounds when the arts are in view. This course asks why this might be so. What is it about the arts that lends themselves so easily to “spirit-talk”, and what is it about the person and work of the Holy Spirit that often leads us to talk about the arts, aesthetics, and artistic creativity? We also ask: how can the arts be more effective agents of the Spirit’s activity in the church and world?
Special Note: Assignments for this course will be marked by a qualified grader.
