This course is both a “how to” and a “how come” investigation of leadership in business, not-for-profits, and churches—in both large and small enterprises. Leadership is understood as a relationship of influence in which goals are accomplished and followership is gained. Building on a solid theological foundation, the professor will explore dimensions of leadership particularly focusing on the unique perspective gained from the Christian faith, including such virtues as faith, hope, and love; critical perspectives such as integrity and life-giving rhythms; and issues of success and failure. Business and professional life often neglect the soul; this leads to a divided life. Making the Monday connection is especially difficult in an environment of performance and success. This integrative course considers the leader as a whole person and business as a ministry. Expected outcomes include: new working priorities, a Christian worldview, and integration of mind, heart, and action. The course will involve lectures, case studies from the workplace, reading, and personal reflection.
