Stewardship is our faithful response to the mission of God. We can join in God’s mission with confidence and hope as stewards of God’s abundant gifts and invite others into that stewardship. What is God calling us to as individuals, as a parish, and as a diocese? We know there is a culture shift happening in the church, and the pandemic seems to have expedited this shift. Stewardship practices have also been shifting during this culture change. What does remain the same is that stewardship is discipleship: it calls us to live all aspects of our life in the light of faith in Jesus.
Teaching and encouraging stewardship for a parish is never easy. It takes time and a consistent effort. While stewardship involves fundraising, it is different. Stewardship has little to do with a church roof or deficit. Instead, it has everything to do with your relationship with God and the mission God is calling you to. This course offers a time for developing a foundation to support your parish’s mission. Together we will discuss mission, community, abundance, generosity, engagement, and gratitude as primary aspects of stewardship.

What You’ll Learn
This course will introduce you to a particular practice of stewardship that invites you to:
- Connect to the core of your own stewardship practices,
- Find ways to mobilize the resources already present in your community,
- Creatively respond to the challenges that face us today,
- Share ways to talk about stewardship, gratitude, and keep parishioners feeling connected to the parish, and
- Learn community centric fundraising best practices.
How It Works
Join our instructor, Gillian Doucet Campbell, MA, CFRE and an engaged learning community of fellow clergy and parishioners live online and in online forums.
- Participate in eight two-hour sessions with Gillian Doucet Campbell and the learning community. The learning community will meet weekly on Wednesday evenings, 7:00p – 9:00p, October 6 – November 24.
- Practice in your context. During the course you will be encouraged to apply your learning in your context to deepen your understanding. It is strongly encouraged that you participate in this course with at least one other member of your parish.
- Reflect within the learning community. Your new knowledge and experience will become even more meaningful when shared with other learning practitioners like yourself. You will use the online forums between sessions and break-out sessions with members of your parish taking the course to further integrate your learning.
Meet the Teacher-Practitioner
Gillian Doucet Campbell, MA, CFRE (she/her) is the Director of Stewardship and Development for the Anglican Diocese of Niagara. She provides leadership, strategic direction, and coordination of stewardship and fund development initiatives to foster a culture of generous, intentional givers that contributes to the renewal and mission of the communities she works in. With over fifteen years of experience in fundraising, administration, and constituent care with a focus on generous hospitality and gratitude, she has activated over $10 million through major and planned gifts, grants, and sponsorships in small- to mid-sized nonprofits. Gillian has a particular interest in Design Thinking, philanthropic trends in Canada and the wider Church, social enterprise, ethical financial investing, and organizational change. She is a member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Golden Horseshoe and is on the Communications Committee for AFP Canada. She recently joined the board of Abundance Canada (formerly the Mennonite Foundation of Canada) and serves on both its Nominations and Investment Committees. A highly accomplished, results-driven fundraiser, Gillian thrives on curiosity and coffee.
