In this course we will read through Luke and Acts, paying attention to their historical background, literary character and theological emphases. In the case of the Gospel of Luke we want to discern its distinctive features in relation to the other three Gospel accounts, and in the case of the Book of Acts we want to see how this book functions as the indispensable bridge between the four Gospels and the subsequent sections of New Testament letters.

In the process of pursuing these academic studies, necessary and important as they are, we also want to take account of the significance of this body of literature for the contemporary church and the ongoing life of Christian discipleship. Ultimately our intention is not only to become better informed of the content of Luke’s writings but also to become better practitioners of the life of faith set before us.
