Faced with an opportunity to tell an uncomfortable truth, a lot of us feel the need to “clean it up” before sharing. When that happens, we end up creating edited, sanitized versions of our stories that ultimately leave us feeling cut off from our community.
More often than not, guilt and shame are the things keeping us from speaking our whole truth. It’s time to understand how they work, recognize their hold, and overcome their power. We can help.
What You’ll Gain
- A deeper understanding of the importance of guilt and the destructive nature of shame
- The ability to recognize and identify shame-based behavior
- How to craft at least one true, first-person story—connecting it to a relevant audience
- Listening skills that use the “two stars and a wish” critique model

Workshop Agenda
Session 1:
Guilt, Shame, and Storytelling
The idea that “the stories you tell will tell on you,” sets the tone for the first session. With an interactive mix of videos, stories, group discussion, and freewriting exercises, you’ll learn to differentiate guilt and shame and confront their power in your own life.
Session 2:
How to Tell Shameful Stories to Audiences Hungry for Uncomfortable Truths
It’s one thing to talk about, or to encourage, telling uncomfortable truths. However, until you’ve shared something publicly without edits, that work is incomplete. Session two will give you the space and support to put everything you’ve learned into practice.

Throughout the course, breakout sessions will allow chances to discuss and apply what you’re learning with people facing the same obstacles (like guilt and shame) as you.
-
➔ Develop meaningful connections
When your default may have been to edit or clean up your own shameful stories, learning to do the opposite can be hard. That’s why it’s important to connect with people on the same journey. This course will allow you to build those relationships.
