The devotional poetry of the seventeenth century is famous for its impeccable artistry and devotional power. Expand your heart and mind as you contemplate works from three of this era’s best-loved devotional poets: John Donne, George Herbert, and Anne Bradstreet. Explore Puritan piety, spiritual conflict, and divine love through Donne’s “Holy Sonnets,” Herbert’s “The Temple,” and Bradstreet’s meditative poetry. Our journey through these richly textured works will illuminate your understanding of prayer and devotion, allowing you to see the presence of God anew. You do not need to be a specialist in English literature to enjoy this course; all you need is an open mind and a willingness to engage with the poems.
