Anglicanismo: Historia e Identidad en Clave Latinoamericana

Este curso ofrecerá un vistazo de ave del anglicanismo en el contexto latinoamericano ante el trasfondo de los eventos, los movimientos y las ideas y discusiones que han afectado a la Comunión Anglicana durante el siglo XX y las primeras décadas del siglo XXI. Incluirá un repaso de la historia de las Iglesias anglicanas en varias partes de la América Latina, análisis de la realidad continental y las respuestas de las Iglesias anglicanas a la problemática latinoamericana, rasgos del anglicanisimo en el contexto latinoamericano y sueños y esperanzas para el futuro. Las lecturas y reflexiones serán realizadas en español.

This course will offer a bird’s-eye view of Anglicanism in the Latin American context against the backdrop of the events, movements, ideas and debates that have affected the Anglican Communion during the twentieth century and the first decades of the twenty-first. It will include a review of the history of the Anglican churches in various parts of Latin America, analysis of the continental reality and he responses of the Anglican churches to the problematic situation of Latin America, characteristics of Anglicanism in the Latin American context and dreams and hopes for the future. Readings and reflections will take place in Spanish.

Profesor/Instructor: The Rev. Dr. John Kater

A native of Virginia, John Kater served as assistant minister and later as rector at Christ Episcopal Church, Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and also taught for ten years as a visiting professor at Vassar College. From 1984 to 1990 he served as education officer for the Episcopal Diocese of Panama and priest-in-charge of Iglesia San Francisco de Asís in Panama City. He joined the faculty of CDSP in 1990. Since “official” retirement in 2007, he teaches at CDSP and The School for Deacons in the fall term and at Ming Hua Theological College, Hong Kong in the Spring.
