No portion of Scripture has been more thoroughly studied, preached upon, or written about than the Sermon on the Mount. This famous and influential passage from the Gospel of Matthew has a bearing on many fundamental questions of Christian life: What is the nature of God’s kingdom? What does godliness look like? What ethical considerations are paramount? How do the Old and New Testaments relate to one another, and what are the implications of that relationship for our lives? Explore this passage’s significance in the context of the Gospel of Matthew and Scripture as a whole. Consider its place in the history of the church and its relation to common ethical and theological categories. Leave with a deeper understanding of what it means to be a faithful follower of Jesus.
