“Whoever feels attracted to Jesus cannot adequately explain why,” Adolf Holl, author of Jesus in Bad Company wisely observed. “He must be prepared to be always correcting his image of Jesus for he will never exhaust what there is to know. Jesus is full of surprises.”
That may actually be an understatement. From our reading we have culled a wide variety of quotations about Jesus, revealing many diverse perspectives on the man from Nazareth by Christians and those from other spiritual traditions. What they all agree on is that we can practice what Jesus preached and modeled. Or as Ed Hays put it in his imaginative The Gospel of Gabriel: “Jesus grinned and smiled gently, pointing to his chest: ‘I am the lesson! Learn me, learn me by heart.'”
You are invited to explore these lessons during this 40-email course. Each email will contain a thought-provoking thought about Jesus for your reflection and a practice suggestion inspired by the quote. These are concrete ways for people of all traditions to express their respect and love of Jesus and the way he modeled.
(Please note: The 40 emails in this e-course are the same ones that were used in the Practicing Spirituality with Jesus – Lenten Edition in spring 2008; the only difference is that the Lenten edition included extra emails for the Sundays in Lent. If you are looking for new perspectives on Jesus, having taken that course, we suggest you take Practicing Spirituality with Jesus – 2.)
(6 CEHs for Chaplains available for Practicing Spirituality with Jesus – 1.)
