What do Episcopalians, Lutherans and members of the Reformed churches believe? How do we differ theologically and where do we agree? In this course we will explore three theologies of the 16th century Continental and English Reformations. We will focus on the historical context of their beginnings, the principal theological claims of each Reformation, and on similarities and differences that are still significant today. This introductory course is for anyone interested in learning more about the variety of theological traditions of the Reformation as well as for those who seek a greater understanding of the basis for contemporary Episcopal, Lutheran and Reformed dialogue.
Diane Bowers is an ordained pastor in the Lutheran church (ELCA) and currently serves a congregation in the Bay Area. She recently completed her doctoral degree in systematic theology at the Graduate Theological Union on the theology Martin Luther. Diane is working on a book about eco-spirituality, provisionally titled, “Grace, Compost and the Christian Life.” She lives with her husband in Berkeley, and when not writing, preaching or leading funerals, she tends flowers and bees and grows lackluster tomatoes.
This course qualifies for the Advanced Anglican Series in the area of Scripture. 2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available.
