War in Faith and Film
Is it possible for disciples of Jesus Christ to participate in or approve of war? If so, under what circumstances? Those are the central questions with which this course will wrestle. It will approach these questions through the lens of contemporary films—both fictional and non-fictional—that portray key aspects of war, augmenting those films with readings that will deepen students’ understanding of the rich history of Christian reflection upon war. Students will watch a movie and engage in online reading and discussion each week.
