Feb. 20-21, 2017: Living Into Our Biblical Story – Some Remarkable Stories of Women in the Old Testament
A retreat with Dr. Diane and Paul Jacobson.
During our two days of study together, we will begin by looking at the stories of the women in Genesis and Exodus — from matriarchs to midwives, from princesses to slaves. We will consider how often the stories of the women parallel and amplify the stories of the men. We will then look at the penetrating portraits of women (and men) in the books of Judges and Ruth. We will consider such pressing issues as community, abuse, immigration, and family. This should be faithful fun for men and women alike.
Diane will do the teaching, and Paul will help plan and lead worship and devotional experiences, and bring music to the mix.
Retreat begins with breakfast on Monday, Feb 20th, and ends at 3pm on Tuesday, February 21st.
Dr. Diane Jacobson is professor emerita of Old Testament at Luther Seminary, St. Paul, where she taught from1982-2010. She also served as director of the Book of Faith Initiative for the ELCA from 2008-2015. Jacobson has been a frequent speaker throughout the Church, including the 2011 and 2013 Churchwide Assemblies, the LWF 50thAnniversary Assembly in Hong Kong, numerous synodical assemblies, rostered leaders gatherings, and churchwide consultations.
Paul Jacobson has been primarily in 18th century orchestral and chamber music performance with The Lyra Baroque Orchestra and many other ensembles. I am also a church musician and composer. Our time together in the Sonoran Desert will be, I am confident, full of beauty, inspiration, and blessing. He’ll be using flutes (18th century and modern) and piano to accompany worship, labyrinth walks, and perhaps even entertainment.

Commuter Rate: $65 per day includes lunch only OR come for both days and all 5 meals for $120 per person
