Jan Term – Writing the Sacred: Landscape, History, Memory, and Ceremony in Indigenous Writing – G19W141
Listen to the minerals in the cliff, mesa and canyon walls of Ghost Ranch. See the colors of land and its creatures shimmer with each slant of light. They are story. Let them infiltrate your own writings as you live in and explore the heart of this high desert. Muskogee poet Joy Harjo said that we are “memory alive.” Explore memory in songs, ceremony and stories evoked by the landscapes and cultures of northern New Mexico that have inspired the writings of Leslie Marmon Silko, Joy Harjo, Luci Tapahonso, Rudolfo Anaya, N. Scott Momaday, Paula Gunn Allen, Demetria Martinez, Sherwin Bitsui and others. This is a field-based, mixed-genre writing course that traverses the vibrant communities and lands surrounding Ghost Ranch alive with spirits, history, ceremony and story.
Please note that our workshop price structure packages your tuition, course materials, lodging and meals together in a single rate. Prices are presented for each of the types of lodging available for the workshop you select. Some art workshops will have an additional list of course materials and supplies that can be purchased or you will be asked to bring with you.
- Note: Some courses (especially studio courses and plein air painting courses) can carry an additional material list or expense.
All rates are Per Person, Double Occupancy unless otherwise specified. Single Occupancy: Single occupancy rooms may be reserved for an additional $50 per night when space is available.
