Spirituality is about being vibrantly,
creativity, holistically, fully alive! Drawing
on Taoist, Zen, Hasidic, Sufi and
Christian contemplative traditions to
enliven, balance, simplify, focus and
enjoy Life! As many westerns are feeling
overwhelmed, stressed by the pace
of our society, cosmically lonely, empty,
and out-of-touch with nature and authentic
Self, this is a retreat, a workshop
of sorts, to explore these insights for
our authenticity and personal growth
(prayer).
Dr. John Jerry-Anthony Parente holds
degrees in spirituality, theology and art.
His background incorporates being the
Executive Director of a retreat center,
a college professor for 25 yrs.(on the
undergraduate, masters’ and doctorate
levels) in New York and the bay area of
California, a professional artist for over
30 yrs. with museum and nationwide
gallery exhibits to his credit, a spirituality
program innovator, a thesis and
dissertation advisor, a workshop-retreat
facilitator and a spiritual companion to
many. He has lived in monastic community
and as a lay contemplative. He was
a resident scholar at the Institute for
Ecumenical and Cultural Research (MN),
where he explored painting and religious
experience, and the former co-Director
of the University of Creation Spirituality
Doctor of Ministry program in Spirituality
(CA), where he also taught in Naropa
University Oakland’s Masters program.
He has also offered a number of retreat/
workshop days as a staff member of
the Pacific Center for Spiritual Formation
(CA). Parente retreats/workshops,
2011-2013 Formation (CA). For the past
7 years, he has created curriculum and
taught courses in Religious Studies and
Humanities at Chabot College, in the
Bay Area of CA. He often teaches and
provides retreats nationally on spirituality
and creative process, watercolor and
drawing as well as the contemplative
Life, among other topics.
