The gospel in line and color
February 11, 2017 – February 17, 2017
Experience the compelling practice of painting an icon using techniques developed before the year 1000 A.D. Using gold leaf and egg tempera on gessoed boards, instructor Suzanne Schleck guides you through a week of art and prayer. Schleck has studied iconography for over 20 years and welcomes experienced artists as well as beginners. Participants may choose to paint one of three traditional icons: King David, Ohrid Annunciation and Yaroslavl Mother of God (see images below).
Days begin with an early morning Eucharist followed by an anointing of hands in the studio. Noonday prayers are said before lunch, and each day ends with an evening prayer in Kanuga’s Chapel of the Transfiguration.
Space is limited to 35 participants.
Extend your retreat for an extra day!
Arrive early on February 10, and Kanuga will provide lodging, breakfast and lunch.
