Annunciation IconIcon writing is an ancient painting technique in which the process and the finished work inspire prayerful meditation.

To allow for individual instruction, this workshop is limited to 25 participants. Beginners and experienced iconographers alike will find this course rewarding.

Icons will be written in Jo Sonia acrylic paint and gold leaf, a medium that most closely resembles the traditional egg tempera.

This year, students will recreate the Annunciation icon, which depicts the angel Gabriel delivering the news to the Virgin Mary that she will conceive the son of God.

During this six-day retreat, participants will focus on their art while incorporating Gregorian chant, praying with icons, silent time, lively group discussions and daily Eucharists into this deeply moving experience to gain “a glimpse of the Kingdom.”
