Icon Retreat

The retreat will include morning presentations on the history of iconography; origin of icon painting; material used in iconography  –  difference between woodenboard & wall; first icon painters; most famous icon painters; materials used in modern iconography; usage of ancient techniques in present time and icon painting in traditional style.

After the morning sessions, you will learn the process of icon painting and will be painting your own icon. Ready wooden boards and acrylic colors will be provided. Participants should bring their own brushes if you have them.

For those who are coming for the first time, a gilded icon of Jesus Christ on an 11 x 15 inch board, will be painted. For those who have come to previous icon retreats, a gilded icon of St. Catherine of Siena on an 11 x 15 inch board, will be painted.

Presenter: Drazen Dupor was born in Gracac in 1966. He was raised and educated in Knin where he started his career as an artisit. In 1987 he became a member of the “Klik” Artist Association in Knin. He studied the art of icon painting in Thessalonica at the K.N. Georgiadis School of Art under the supervision of Zlatko Bomestar.
