New leadership is needed for new times, but it will not come from finding more wily ways to manipulate the external world. It will come as we who serve and teach and lead find the courage to take an inner journey toward both our shadows and our light-a journey that, faithfully pursued, will take us beyond ourselves to become healers of a wounded world.Parker Palmer

For Experienced and Emerging Leaders

Are you actively engaged in creating a more just, peaceful, and ecologically responsible world? Are you passionate about your vocation or cause, but trying to sustain yourself in the midst of heavy demands and the urgency you feel about making a difference? Courage to Lead Retreats offer opportunities to recenter yourself, rekindle your courage, and reclaim your wholeness and integrity.

This retreat series is a rare opportunity for renewal, deeper connection with kindred spirits, and the chance to explore questions of life transitions, vocation, direction, meaning, and alignment with your core values and inner knowing.

Courage to Lead retreats help you become a more self-aware, wholehearted leader. This series is spread throughout the course of the year to allow time to build a strong and dynamic community of practice and support. Space between retreats allows for further reflection and integration of practices into one’s personal and professional lives.

You will journey together with 18-24 other experienced and emerging leaders. Each retreat draws on seasonal metaphors as a way of exploring meaningful vocational and life questions, such as: “How can I maintain a strong connection between who I am and what I do?” “What practices will help me align my soul and my role?” ”When pulled in so many directions, how can I remember myself and stay connected to the heart of my vocation?”

In large-group, small-group and solitary settings, we will share our inner journeys through personal storytelling, poetry, and teaching from a variety of wisdom traditions. There will be time for stillness, solitude, and journaling for reflection, to help unearth clarity and courage and bring meaning and resiliency to your life and leadership.

Each retreat will offer an opportunity for a Clearness Committee, a discernment process that deepens our skills in listening, and asking open and honest questions.

Among those who have expressed deep appreciation for these retreat include: government, not-for-profit and business leaders, young leaders and activists, educators, health practitioners, entrepreneurs, social activists, clergy, lay leaders, spiritual directors and students.

“The Courage work is hugely important in sustaining the work of so many of us who live to serve those around us.”Participant in Seasonal Series

“I have so much appreciation for the process of going within for answers, and encouraging others to do the same with open questions.”2018 Courage to Lead Participant

“I loved the regular call to authentic presence and our own inner voice.”Minister

“This was tremendous for me as I learned to link my therapeutic and spiritual paths. I have taken this work to my counselling times with people. I’ve also integrated it in my spirituality group and a book club.”Counsellor
