Contemplative Church: This no-stress gathering for leaders tired of playing church and interested in cultivating God devotion through spiritual practices that just might be the primary hope for doing and being the future global Christian church
In an era of increasing confusion and opportunities, the Church is invited to an ancient alternative. During this week-long course, you are invited to return, receive and re-discover the contemplative, inner-dimension of Christianity through prayer, teaching, spiritual exercises, dialogue, time in nature, and more.
Contemplative Church presupposes that we are all on a spiritual journey deeper into God’s love. Through our participation in God’s love and grace, we experience an ongoing process of transformation further into Christ by the power of the Spirit. Contemplative Church is a particular way of being Christian and doing church grounded in specific spiritual practices such as the prayerful and slow reading of scripture (lectio divina), meditative prayer (e.g. Centering Prayer, Jesus Prayer), taking time for silence and solitude, receiving the Eucharist, and an overall inward attentiveness to God’s presence and action in the spiritual/intuitive dimension of our being, and in others.
The motivation and destination of this contemplative way of being Christian is love: for God, self, one another and indeed for all of creation. Join contemplative author and pastor Peter Traben Haas for this soul-renewing gathering February 2 – 8, 2015. In preparation for the gathering, Peter invites you to prayerfully and slowly read the ‘Method of Centering Prayer’ brochure and Thomas Keating’s Invitation To Love.
