Chaos, Decline, Revitalization and Rebirth: The Church in the Early 21st Century
with Anna Greenwood-Lee and Christine Conkin

Is the church today dying or struggling to be reborn? Are we called to be chaplains of what was or midwives of what God is birthing in our midst? Together we will engage with prophetic voices, both ancient and contemporary, giving expression to what we are called to put down and what we are called to take up. The course will include presentation, discussion and curated videos from theologians, biblical scholars and pastors, including Walter Brueggemann, Ilia Delio, Brian McLaren, Emilie Townes and Brandan Robertson.

Anna Greenwood-Lee is the Rector of St. Laurence Anglican Church, Calgary and the Director of the Wisdom Centre.  The Wisdom Centre seeks to renew and revitalize corporate and individual spirituality in the 21st century. Based in Calgary, the Wisdom Centre hosts speakers, retreats, and studies for people seeking to make sense of the shifting spiritual landscape of the 21st century . The Wisdom Centre has welcomed such guests as Diana Butler Bass, Peter Rollins, Barbara Brown Taylor and Cynthia Bourgeault. In the Fall of 2019 we look forward to welcoming Brian McLaren. Anna earned her M.Div from the Episcopal Divinity School in Cambridge, MA and was ordained in 2000. She has served parishes in both Calgary and Toronto. She is married to James and has two school-aged children.

Christine Conkin has served in three Calgary parishes, including becoming rector of St. Andrew’s in 2014. She was ordained in 2006 after completing an MDiv at Vancouver School of Theology and completed a Master of Theology in Bible in 2013. Her interest in the transformation of the church today, in both belief and practice, is informed by her biblical work about how the ancient Israelites transformed into the Jewish community. Christine’s spiritual life is grounded in dance and the many outdoor activities she loves.
