April 30th marks the first anniversary of the death of Rev. Daniel Berrigan, the legendary peace activist, priest, poet, author, and long time Kirkridge teacher. Join Rev. John Dear for a weekend of celebration and reflection on the life, legacy, writings and lessons of Daniel Berrigan. Based on his 35 year friendship with Berrigan, and his work as editor of five books on Dan, including “Daniel Berrigan: Essential Writings,” John will explore Dan’s life, writings, poetry, scripture teachings, and actions for inspiration to help us carry on the Gospel mission to make peace and end war, poverty, racism, nuclear weapons, and environmental destruction. Retreatants are invited to read Dan’s books, esp. the “Essential Writings” before the retreat, and to bring favorite books, poems, passages and stories. Together, we will recommit ourselves to the Gospel call to be peacemakers.
Rev. John Dear is an activist, teacher and author of 35 books including The Beatitudes of Peace; The Nonviolent Life; Thomas Merton Peacemaker; Walking the Way; A Persistent Peace: Living Peace; Jesus the Rebel; Peace Behind Bars; and The Questions of Jesus. He edited “Daniel Berrigan: Essential Writings;” “And the Risen Bread: The Collected Poetry of Daniel Berrigan;” “Apostle of Peace: Essays in Honor of Daniel Berrigan,” and other books. John works with www.campaignnonviolence.org and has been nominated many times for the Nobel Peace Prize, including by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. see: www.johndear.org
