With Susan Kelly Von Medicus
The ancient practice of icon-writing (painting religious artwork commonly depicting Christ, Mary, saints, or angels) is rooted in an understanding of God as present in all things, and of prayer being an act of attention and creation. We’ll immerse ourselves in this prayerful experience as each participant creates his or her own icon. Over the course of six days, noted iconographer and teacher Susan Kelly von Medicus will lead us through the stages of making a classical icon. The week will include ample time for learning technique and painting the icon, as well as experiencing God in the abundance of nature, our common table, and our common prayer. This retreat is especially meant for newcomers to icon-making.
There is a $160 materials fee. Scholarships are available.
Led by Susan Kelly von Medicus, artist, iconographer, and art faculty member at Villanova University.
This retreat is suitable for adults and for young people who are capable of participating in adult conversations and activities.
