A thousand years ago, Christian mystic Hildegard von Bingen, abbess, composer and artist, looked into the night sky and wrote, “Stars on their axes, dancing in chorus.” What kind of life might we lead if we could “see” the stars dancing? Seeking the transcendent with curiosity and wonder brings us closer to the Source, fuels creativity, enlivens the soul and nurtures deep wisdom. With Hildegard’s passionate curiosity and love of creation as inspiration, we explore the elements of a wise life rooted in wonder, through discussion and experiential activities such as exploring the labyrinth, writing poetry and story, visual lectio divina (“divine reading”) of art and of the beauty of Ghost Ranch, mindfulness practices, collage/visual journals. Intentional practice of creativity enhances our spiritual lives, life satisfaction, emotional well-being, resilience and relationships. Integrating principles of positive psychology with everyday creativity, the course offers opportunities to explore the power of the creative process to touch the transcendent and transform the mundane.
