Watching and Waiting – an Advent Retreat

December 13, 2013 - December 15, 2013
West Park NY
USA

Friday, December 13 – Sunday, December 15

Led by The Rev. Gwyneth Murphy

We come together halfway through our Advent journey. We long to be immersed in this season of Watching and Waiting, but the cultural celebration of Christmas tugs at us too. Come to the Monastery, where there are no Santas, sleigh bells or sales, and be immersed.

Watching and Waiting is woven into the tapestry of our days. We watch and wait for things seemingly small – for the bus, a phone call, for the cake to rise, the light to change … and for things that loom large and uncertain – lab results, the return of a soldier, forgiveness. We sit with a loved one who is dying, with another who is in labor.

During the retreat, we shall explore and experience how Watching and Waiting can be a spiritual practice focused on the present rather than the future. This brings us into “spacious time, ” which is calm and abundant, which becomes fertile soil for The Word Made Flesh.

The retreat will include time for silence and solitude as well as group reflection and prayer.

The Rev. Gwyneth MacKenzie Murphy, Interim Rector at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church in Woodstock, NY is a Retreat Leader, Spiritual Director and Sacred Dancer.

Cost: $240, cost: $80
