Exploring the Depths: the Practice of Soul Work

We will be exploring what it means to “practice soul work” in our spiritual journey.

We will spend time reflecting on the spiritual journey, the development of our soul, and the strengthening of the bond between our soul and the Holy. We will look at various resources (eg. mandalas, walking meditations, mindfulness exercises, body prayer, breath work, labyrinth meditations, etc.) to assist us in this work.

There will be space in our time for integrating our experiences and allowing them to sink deeper within ourselves. Sunday morning will be a time to gather up what has transpired during the weekend, and to share ways to hold these gleanings as we transition into the world beyond Sorrento. We will begin and end each day with a prayer/worship time.

For those who have a desire to engage in an extended silent retreat, this event will be an excellent introduction to being in silence.

Extended event: Going Deeper
with Rick McCorrister

Those people from the “Exploring the Depths: the Practice of Soul Work” retreat who wish to test out an extended time of silence are invited to attend a one-day silent retreat from Sunday lunch to Monday lunch.

We will meet following lunch on Sunday to explain the process for this one-day event and participants will be in silence from that time until we come out of silence Monday morning following our morning worship time.

We will be able to debrief the experience of being in silence. We will also spend time reflecting on the transition from this time of silent retreat into our regular lives beyond Sorrento. We will conclude with lunch together.

Deeper Still: A Silent Retreat

This will be a time to go deeper in our soul work through the practice of inner stillness.

We will begin Sunday evening with an orientation to the retreat time and will end the day with a prayer time for going into silence. Monday to Wednesday we will be in silence. We will have a prayer time each morning and evening to give structure to our day.

In addition there will be opportunity each day for each participant to meet with Rick for a spiritual check-in time (or spiritual direction session). Meals will also be in silence.

Thursday morning we will use our Morning Prayer time for coming out of silence. The rest of the morning will be a time to debrief the time of silence and to reflect on the transition into our regular lives beyond Sorrento. We will conclude with lunch together.
