Thomas Merton is one of the most famous and influential Christian writers who ever lived. In this retreat we will inquire into the spiritual evolution of his life, which includes excerpts from several of his books and documentaries on his life. We will learn about his early bohemian life, including the many places and mythical symbols that came to have an impact on his vocation as a monk and an author. We will explore the impact of the tragic losses of his mother, father, and brother upon his evolution and struggles to find a home. We will venture into his years as a Trappist monk, including his deep questions on community and solitude. We will engage his inter-religious dialog, mystical experiences and his travels. Through Thomas Merton’s spiritual journey—we shall inquire into the nature of our own paths and where we currently are in the present.
