Discerning the Signs of the Times series – The Poetics of Justice explores the role that the literary arts have played in historical processes of deep social change. Using poetry, essays and short stories, we will look at the myriad ways literature can help us re-imagine our world. For religious communities, these art forms are as central to, if not more important than, formal doctrines and creedal statements. Drawing on the rich landscape of northern New Mexico, we will reflect, specifically, on how the poetics of land shapes imagination, and how imagination itself can be understood as a landscape, where grace becomes real and God is known.

The seminar is offered in partnership with the Association for Reformed & Liturgical Worship, and will help participants consider how our worship can reflect and address God’s concern for justice, as well as how liturgy itself does (or fails to do) justice.
