Tessellations with Dianne Jansson

Dianne JanssonTessellations are interlocking shapes that compose a pattern. In quilts they can be very simple, (squares or triangles, etc), progressing to incredibly complicated designs.

The workshop will begin with several exercises to demonstrate how tessellating patterns are designed. This is cut and paste work. This will be followed with a discussion of some common shapes, and each student will plan their project.

Most tessellation quilts are scrappy so require a small amount of many fabrics – a great time to use those smaller pieces that multiply in your stash overnight.

DIANNE JANSSON has taught quilting workshops throughout British Columbia and across Canada, and in Australia and Iceland. Originally from Australia with a background in home economics, Dianne has inspired many quilters with her easy teaching style and has helped her students learn new skills and be more creative in their work. Dianne was named the 1997 “Teacher of the Year” by the Canadian Quilters Association.

Metro Rings with Lynn Knox

Lynn KnoxThis quilt is strip piecing and then trimming with the quick curve ruler. It is simple with an outstanding result. It looks very similar to a wedding ring quilt without the fuss.

You can make it modern or you can make it traditional depending on your fabric choices. This workshop is suitable for all skill levels from beginner on up.

LYNN KNOX was born and raised in Vernon, British Columbia and has been quilting for 20 plus years. She has been teaching quilting and machine embroidery and embroidery software in the Okanagan valley for over ten years, and has developed her own line of patterns – Absolutely Obsessed Patterns, which are sold in Canada and US.

Kathy KinsellaButterflies and Dragonflies with Kathy Kinsella

Butterflies and dragonflies have delightful patterns on their wings that can be interpreted in a variety of ways. Come and join us for five days of exploration into the designs we can create using butterflies and dragonflies as our inspiration.

We will do some free motion thread painting on organza, play with textile paints and foiling to enhance some designs and experiment with additional beading and hand stitches for embellishment.

We will explore artsy ways to make their bodies and attach them creatively. You will be provided with an idea for creating a small art quilt with a butterfly or dragonfly as a focal point, or you might choose to work on your own design.

This workshop will be enjoyable for those who are experienced quilters but it is also a great way to jump into art quilting if you are a novice. The only experience you need is being comfortable with your sewing machine. I hope you will come and have fun with us!

There will be a small lab fee for supplies provided by the instructor.

KATHY KINSELLA is a textile artist whose work includes silk fusion abstracts, landscapes that capture the essence of the Shuswap, work with a whimsical flair, and liturgical fibre art. Prior to retiring to the world of fibre art, Kathy worked for the Anglican Church for twenty years – in a parish, at the diocesan level and then at Sorrento Centre. Her warmth and enthusiasm for fibre art are evident as she shares her ideas and skills with participants.
