Quiet Saturday: C.S. Lewis’ Spiritual Journey and Ours: Surprised by God
Saturday, April 14, 2018
C.S.Lewis was a Professor of English at Oxford and later at Cambridge University.
Though he was born into an Anglican family in Belfast, he spent 20 years as a thoughtful atheist before being converted to a robust Christianity as an adult. He then wrote extensively, both fiction and non-fiction, about Christian faith, and became the leading Christian apologist of the 20th century.
In his spiritual autobiography, Surprised by Joy, he traces the steps by which he became a follower of Jesus. We will look at themes in his story and how they shaped his subsequent life as a Christian, and consider how we too may understand our own journey in faith.
Led by John Bowen, Professor of Evangelism at Wycliffe College from 1997 till 2011. He has taught courses on C.S.Lewis, and is the author of The Spirituality of Narnia: The Deeper Magic of C.S. Lewis.
His students sometimes complained that his habit of quoting C.S.Lewis could be contagious!
