In this retreat, Cyprian explores Christian meditation from its own historical perspective but also through the lens of Universal Wisdom, what we can learn from the practices and wisdom of other traditions. The conference materials are drawn from his book Prayer in the Cave of the Heart: The Universal Call to Contemplation, echoing Bede Griffith’s belief that the call to contemplation is neither an Eastern or Western experience but the prayer of all people. Cyprian Consiglio, prior of the New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur, California, draws on his experience as a Camaldolese monk to invite readers into prayer that makes them “present to the Spirit who is already present to us.” The retreat is a good entry to the work of the House of Prayer and also appropriate for experienced practitioners of Christian contemplative prayer.
