H12 – Palestine of Jesus – Liturgical Focus

14 June – 27 June, 2012

Course Description

This course follows the basic itinerary of Palestine of Jesus but has a special liturgical focus. With our guest lecturer Ruth Meyers, Hodges-Haynes Professor of Liturgics at the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, we will explore the inter-relation between the landscape and its events and the evolution of the Church Year. We will attend to how Christian experience of pilgrimage over the centuries has shaped the liturgical year — recognizing that those participating in this course are also pilgrims – and how encounter with the places helps us understand the liturgical feasts and the events they celebrate. The course will also enable experience of the ancient Orthodox liturgies of the Eastern Churches. The course is open to all, but it will be of special interest to those involved in Christian worship and preaching, and help resource and enable the deeper celebration of the Christian Year and its feasts.
