Introduction to Icon Writing
Tuesday, September 26 – Friday, September 29, 2017
Led by Christine Hales
You do not need to be an artist to write Icons! This class teaches the basics of painting an Icon using egg tempera paints in the Byzantine tradition. Icon writing is a process of prayer and painting, and Christine expertly demonstrates step by step the process. You will have your own Icon at the end of the class and will know more about the History and meaning Icons.
Class schedule: Tuesday evening, all day and evening on Wednesday and Thursday, Friday morning finishing with lunch. Participation in prayer times at the monastery is encouraged.
Christine Hales is a well-loved teacher and iconographer whose icon commissions are at St. Vincent’s Church in Albany, the Spiritual Life Center in Greenwich, NY, and many private collections. She has taught icon-writing workshops for over ten years, and her style of icon writing is both contemporary and honors the ancient traditions of iconography.
