Holy Rest: The Practice of Shabbat for our Times

Offered by Naramata Centre

with Rabbi Laura Duhan Kaplan ~ February 28 to March 2, 2013

Just once a week: take a day off work and school, share dinner with family and friends, sing songs of praise to God. Jewish tradition teaches that these simple acts inspire spiritual lives, create family harmony, encourage workplace equality and heal the planet. Together we will explore traditional Shabbat practices, their biblical roots, their mystical significance, and their far-reaching effects. We will use simple but powerful modes of learning that involve both heart and mind: singing, walking, talking, writing, drawing, sitting together in silence, and sharing our varied spiritual backgrounds with one another.

Laura serves as Rabbi of Or Shalom Synagogue in Vancouver. Previously, she was a professor of philosophy in North Carolina. She shares her weekly Shabbat spirit with her husband Charles and their two teens.
