Writing your truths and your stories is therapeutic, and this week-long intensive experience at Ghost Ranch’s inner retreat center, Casa del Sol, will create a space that is safe and supportive for you to delve more deeply into a free and open expression of your own truths, hone your writing, become aware of your deepest desires, and find your most authentic voice.
Each day we will use contemplative practices, such as meditation, silent hikes, and guided journaling, to cultivate awareness, presence, and compassion, all aimed at creating a safe space that will help you to connect deeply with yourself and with others, to hear your own inner voices, and to allow your own words to flow freely.
We will focus on writing as a practice of self-awareness. We will use poetry to awaken passions and focus on wonder, awe, and the raw emotional core of our creative instincts.
The retreat will include mini-lectures on the craft of writing, as well as group discussions, generative writing exercises, workshop experiences, and plenty of structured time for writing. You will leave having written poetry and prose, and having learned important habits for sustaining a life-giving writing practice at home.
Instructor(s)
Kelsea Habecker is a poet, writer, and teacher. In 2007, her book of poetry, Hollow Out, was selected by U.S. Poet Laureate Charles Simic for publication. For five years, she was a teacher in an Inupiaq Eskimo village in the arctic region of Alaska, where she used writing as a form of self-awareness for high school students. She earned her MFA in poetry from Bennington Writing Seminars and her BA from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College. She teaches graduate writing courses as well as community poetry classes in Seattle, WA.
Please note that our 2015 workshop price structure packages your tuition, course materials, lodging and meals together in a single rate. Prices are presented for each of the types of lodging available for the workshop you select. All rates are Per Person, Double Occupancy unless otherwise specified.
Single Occupancy: Single occupancy rooms may be reserved for an additional $50 per night when space is available. The fee will be charged when space is confirmed. Single occupancy lodging is generally not available during June and July. If you are a single person and do not specify a roommate, a roommate of the same gender will be assigned to share your lodging space or you can request the single occupancy and be charged the supplement of an additional $50 per night (based on availability).
