Albrecht Dürer: “Job on the Dunghill, with his Wife”

This work is linked to Job 2. 9.  Job is sitting on a dunghill. His wife pours a bucket of water on him.  Perhaps she wanted to cool his body, that is covered with sore boils. The woman is dressed in clothes typical for Nuremberg, where Dürer lived.  In the background Job’s burning house is visible.
