Courage to Lead®: Your True Story Through Lifes Transitions

 Learning Together – Program offered in partnership with Emmanuel College Continuing Education and Oaten Institute of Five Oaks.

“We live stories that either give our lives meaning or negate them with meaninglessness.”  ~ Ben Okri, poet and novelist
“When you truly possess all you have been and done… you are fierce with reality.” ~ Florida Scott Maxwell, playwright, author and psychologist.
This retreat is an opportunity, within a Circle of Trust®, to reconnect with and claim your true story – the one that gives your life meaning; and to become fierce with reality for times of change. Explore the rhythms of your soul’s inner terrain for the ups and downs of outer transitions.
Regardless of how you describe your current life circumstances and challenges, this will be a time to reconnect with your deepest gifts and widest possibilities.
This retreat is for individuals from all vocational streams who are seeking renewal of personal identity, professional integrity and vocational vitality, awakening that which changes our lives from within.
Facilitators:
Mardi Tindal has facilitated retreats with people of all kinds of vocations and organizations. She is a writer and a facilitator and mentor with the Center for Courage & Renewal. She is also a former Moderator of The United Church of Canada.
Fred Monteith is a Courage and Renewal facilitator. He served for fifteen years on the staff of Hamilton Conference of the United Church as Minister of Congregational Support and Executive Secretary. Fred has many years experience and training in group processes and facilitation.
About Courage to Lead® Retreats
Over the past decade under the guidance of Parker J. Palmer, highly skilled facilitators have created a unique retreat-based approach to renewing personal identity, professional integrity and vocational vitality. Participants seeking personal and professional renewal will expand their capacity to listen and be present, improve their ability to build trustworthy relationships, and find the courage to live authentically.
Courage & Renewal® work is framed by such questions as, “How can I maintain a strong connection between who I am and what I do?” “What practices will help me align my soul and my role?” “When pulled in so many directions that I feel dis-membered, how can I re-member myself and stay connected to the heart of my vocation?” In large-group, small-group and solitary settings, we will share our inner journeys via personal story-telling, poetry and teaching tales from various wisdom traditions.
Guided by skilled facilitators, participants will be invited to speak honestly about their lives and work and to listen and respond to each other—and to themselves—with encouragement and compassion. Courage and Renewal® retreats support spiritual formation by providing opportunity for:
  • renewing heart, mind, and spirit by exploring the inner landscape of the leader’s life;
  • reconnecting personal identity and professional integrity, honoring gifts and acknowledging the power of limits;
  • creating a community of mutual respect and caring that welcomes the soul and honors diversity;
  • participating in the Clearness Committee discernment process and deepening skills to ask open and honest questions.
