Courage to Lead®: Seasonal Series of Events

Learning Together: Program offered in partnership with Emmanuel College Continuing Education, Oaten Institute of Five Oaks and United in Learning.

“If we attempt to act and do things for others or for the world without deepening our own self-understanding, our own freedom, integrity, and capacity to love, we will not have anything to give to others.” – Thomas Merton

“In transition” is a frequent description of both the situations in which we find ourselves, and our personal state of being. This series of retreats is a year-long opportunity, within a circle of trust, to explore the rhythms of your own soul through the transitions in which you find yourself: in work, relationship, role, or somewhere else.

Regardless of how you describe your current life transitions, these will be times to reconnect with your deepest gifts and widest possibilities; to deepen your “self-understanding, freedom, integrity, and capacity to love” through it all.

Participants are expected to attend all five retreats in the series:
October 17-19, 2016 at Five Oaks
January 16-18, 2017 on line with United in Learning
March 20-22, 2017 at Emmanuel College
June 19-21, 2017 on line with United in Learning
November 6-8, 2017 Crieff Hills Retreat Centre

Payment details:
Cost:  Full Retreat $2195 (includes all five retreats plus meals and accommodations at Five Oaks and Crieff Hills plus lunches and dinners at Emmanuel College)

A deposit of $200 is required at time of registration – an additional $500 is required by the 1st retreat date (October 17-19, 2016).  The remaining balance of $1495 is due by the March 20-22, 2017 retreat.

The retreats begin at 2:00pm and end at 12:30pm or with lunch at 12:30 for on-site retreats.

About Courage to Lead® Retreats
Over the past decade under the guidance of Parker J. Palmer, highly skilled facilitators have created a unique retreat-based approach to renewing personal identity, professional integrity and vocational vitality. Participants seeking personal and professional renewal will expand their capacity to listen and be present, improve their ability to build trustworthy relationships, and find the courage to live authentically.

Courage & Renewal® work is framed by such questions as, “How can I maintain a strong connection between who I am and what I do?” “What practices will help me align my soul and my role?” “When pulled in so many directions that I feel dis-membered, how can I re-member myself and stay connected to the heart of my vocation?” In large-group, small-group and solitary settings, we will share our inner journeys via personal story-telling, poetry and teaching tales from various wisdom traditions.

Guided by skilled facilitators, participants will be invited to speak honestly about their lives and work and to listen and respond to each other—and to themselves—with encouragement and compassion. Courage and Renewal® retreats support spiritual formation by providing opportunity for:

  • renewing heart, mind, and spirit by exploring the inner landscape of the leader’s life;
  • reconnecting personal identity and professional integrity, honoring gifts and acknowledging the power of limits;
  • creating a community of mutual respect and caring that welcomes the soul and honors diversity;
  • participating in the Clearness Committee discernment process and deepening skills to ask open and honest questions.
