Dates: October 14, 2013 – October 19, 2013 Price: $325.00

Ghost Ranch has a long tradition of supporting those in ministry with rich respite and continuing education. In 2013, we will dedicate two special weeks to helping support those in all fields of ministry (ordained and lay).

Arrival (Monday afternoon) and Departure (Saturday morning) have been established so that those in ministry can leave/return in time for their weekly Worship responsibilities. Some segments will involve the full group (plenaries – processing – Worship). Participants will also choose one focus class where they will receive approximately 20 hours of instruction/ experience to help them in their field of ministry. Come and receive a week of nourishment to help you so you in turn can help others.

Seismic religious and cultural shifts are happening in our deeply divided nation, which are reflected today in our churches. As well known scholar Diana Butler Bass suggests, religious affiliation is plummeting across America, but interest in spirituality is soaring. What is taking place around people’s deeply held beliefs, behaviors and need for belonging is often confusing at best and a source of discouragement and despair for many. Pastors, denominations, lay leaders and church members are feeling the impact and are often at odds about these profound social changes. From political backlash and infighting to newly opening conversations and collaborative work with inter-faith organizations, new challenges and possibilities are at hand. The question is, “How do we understand, grapple with, and help lead our denominations, churches, and society into these uncharted times?” Give yourself the opportunity to find understanding, renewed hope, and a sense of collaboration with others on the journey. Let’s just say, “You are not alone!”

Preparation: Reading of Diana Butler Bass’ text, Christianity after Religion is helpful, but not required. Students are asked to bring what they need personally to process emotionally, intellectually, and in body (good walking shoes /journal/sketchpad, etc.)

Instructor(s)
