The first Christians recognized the crucified-and-risen Lord by the marks his body bore. Medieval mystics such as Julian of Norwich and Francis of Assisi nurtured devotion to the humanity of Christ by meditating on these wounds, which they regarded as precious insignia of his sacrificial love and openings into healing and wholeness in God. In this Lenten retreat, we will draw close to the healing wounds of Christ as mirrors of our own wounds and seek to claim our baptismal birthright as “wounded healers.”
