The Society of St. John the Evangelist:

We are a community of men living under traditional monastic vows in a non-traditional setting – Harvard Square (Cambridge, Massachusetts). While we are the oldest men’s religious order in the Anglican Communion, we remain committed to living boldly, facing the challenges and opportunities of life in new times.

About Our Retreats:

The monastery in Cambridge, Massachusets and Emery House in West Newbury, Massachusetts are our homes and are open to guests for retreats, workshops and conferences. The brothers offer guests a room of their own, quiet places to pray, and fellowship at our altar and table.

Program Retreats; Five-Day Directed Retreats; Individual Retreats

Cowley Publications:

Cowley Publications is a ministry of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist. We seek to provide books and audio resources for the ongoing theological exploration and spiritual development of the Episcopal Church and others in the body of Christ. We are dedicated to developing a new generation of theological writers, encouraging them to produce timely, creative and stimulating publications of excellence, and making these publications available widely, reaching both clergy and lay persons.

Cowley Magazine:

Cowley is the magazine newsletter of the Society of Saint John the Evangelist and is issued three times a year. It features theological reflection essays, updates on brothers’ mission work and community life, upcoming retreat offerings, and other news and events in the life of the Society.
