The Seventh Annual Gathering of Shalem’s Society for Contemplative Leadership
October 28 – November 1, 2012
Gathering begins at 4pm on Sunday, October 28 and ends after lunch on Thursday, November 1, 2012.
HOPE AND COURAGE: Empowering Contemplative Leadership for These Times
Hope and courage are more important than ever for contemplative leadership today, especially to break through what is stale or oppressive, fearful or depleted in social, political and religious structures. We need to re-claim a shared Spirit-infused vision of possibility, fortified by fresh freedom and imagination.
This Gathering will explore contemplatively grounded practices in community for imagining and realizing possibilities.
We will consider three dimensions of hope and courage:
?Contemplative Hope – a way of looking at the world
Not evading the “powers” but looking at them through the eye of the heart, free for God’s hope
?Contemplative Intercession – a way of joining God’s prayer for the world
Opening ourselves together for spontaneous litanies of lament and hope
?Contemplative Courage – a way of risk-taking action for the dream of God
Responding to our callings and offering our gifts for courageous engagement with the world through contemplative leadership
These themes will be carried out through a rhythm of prayer, song, silence, small groups, and plenary sessions, with opportunities to share our stories of empowered hope, courage and struggle in our contemplative leadership. The daily rhythm and components of our time will be similar to last year. The special context of our week, All Saints Day and the upcoming national elections, may bring additional stories and questions to our time concerning our contemplatively grounded leadership.
