Advent: Kindling the Fire Within

Friday, December 8 – Sunday, December 10, 2017

Led by Rev. Gwyneth MacKenzie Murphy

In the words of the medieval mystic Meister Eckhart, “We are all meant to be Mothers of God, for God is constantly needing to be born.” In the words of contemporary poet Christine Rodgers, “We are called to echo Her great and glorious YES … to birth her child back into the world.” In the spacious time of Advent and in the deep peace of the Monastery, we’ll enter into the mystery of the Annunciation. We’ll ponder what it means for us today, as individuals and as community. Entering the stillness, we await the movement of the Spirit within and among us. Entering the silence, we listen for the angel inviting us to bear God into the world.

There will be time for silence and solitude as well as time together in reflection and prayer. We are invited to join the brothers for services. We’ll build our own altar: you are invited to bring an icon, prayer, stone, leaf or any symbol of your spiritual journey.

Rev. Gwyneth MacKenzie Murphy is a spritual director and sacred dancer and is serving as Interim Pastor at St. John’s in the Village, Manhattan.
