More Info: A crescent moon waxes, night and day meet level-eyed and we gather to sing on the mountain. Wind whistles on branch and stone, sap lifts a promise of green dreams, and we marvel and sing, sounding the path of love’s long uprising…returning and shifting, remembering and imagining, longing and dreaming…we sing anew our universe, freshening our world, our song in a widening embrace. In a circle we sing music of Carolyn McDade, as well as others and social movements. We reflect in silence and communal sharing, and simple ritualized moments. Entering the circle as persons, we collectively create who we are together. Saturday night is community night. Participants bring songs, poetry, stories, dance to share. Sunday is a time of gratitude and purpose—continuing on deepened, afresh.

Carolyn McDade, for four decades, has gathered women to sing music that affirms, nurtures, and sustains our deeply personal as well as communal lives. Songs interweave integrity, social vision, and planetary wholeness. Hundreds of women have participated in these programs. Thirteen taping projects have brought women together to sing the mystical that rattles our bones and stirs our hearts—to sing our vision for a just, peaceful, and sustainable world.

Widening Embrace is Carolyn McDade’s newest body of music—a year-long project of singing, meditation, reflection, and the arts. Sung by women from 9 regions of North America, each song arises from the energies of Creation, Earth, Universe, pulling us deep into the learning fields of forest, water, sky, stars.
