Reaching and engaging young people is as difficult for the Church as dealing with teenagers is in most families! In this course we’ll be examining the root causes of these difficulties — developmental, missiological, cultural and theological — and thinking through ways that the church can respond and thrive in her efforts to disciple the next generation.

Potential students considering a ministry to the young, clergy working through how to improve their church’s work with teenagers, anyone working with teenagers who would like to better understand them.

Student Instructions: recommended but not required would be reading parts of:

DeVries, Mark, 2008. Sustainable Youth Ministry: Why most youth ministry doesn’t last and what your church can do about it.

Twenge, Jean, 2018.   iGen: Why Today’s Super-Connected Kids Are Growing Up Less Rebellious, More Tolerant, Less Happy–and Completely Unprepared for Adulthood–and What That Means for the Rest of Us.
