Preparation for Pilgrimage
This focus of this workshop is for us “modern folks” to re-discover the incredible benefits found in the ancient art and practice of Christian pilgrimage. We will start our time together sharing tales of our storied journey of life by creating time lines of significant milestones of life. Following this will be an exploration of the characteristics of life as a pilgrimage, focusing on the importance of hospitality, character, the land, importance of strangers, companionship, prayer and contemplation, music and art, and the rituals of pilgrimage. After an afternoon of art, rest, and reflection, we will gather that evening to consider pilgrimage the themes of pilgrimage in the movie, “The Way”. The next day, we will go on a small morning pilgrimage around the grounds of Ghost Ranch, followed by an open discussion, comparing and contrasting our storied journey, the pilgrimage of our family or church, and the characteristics of the pilgrimage of life.
All this is prologue to the Holy Week Pilgrimage & Prayer at Ghost Ranch, starting on Maundy Thursday and concluding Easter Sunday.
