This certificate program fuses adult education theory and practice, and social transformation theory, with the creative arts. Participants are introduced to the Creative Arts Learning Cycle, a unique model developed to maximize the transformational potential of the creative arts in any learning situation.
Primarily for facilitators, educators, and artists who want to use their art to engage others, this program combines theory and practice in a participatory learning process which allows participants to experience the transformational quality of the creative arts, understand a theoretical framework for building experiences which use the creative arts, and practice designing and facilitating learning experiences using a variety of modalities from the creative arts (theatre, movement, visual art etc.)
This certificate program will enable you to take your program design and facilitation to the next level, as you engage in a reflective, experiential creative experience.

Dr. Debbie Castle
Dr. Debbie Castle is currently working on projects designed to bring the fullness of each one’s lived experiences into the community/collective as a way of re-discovering our love for the whole and the diverse ways we express and share it. Debbie’s role as a facilitator takes her many places locally and globally focusing on learning and change. The foundation of her work continues to be the ASPIRE model in its original form at the Tatamagouche Centre, for which she is ever thankful.
Tessa Mendel
Tessa Mendel, Program Resource Group (PRG) Facilitator, is a community-based arts facilitator, theatre director and educator who uses the creative arts for transformational learning. She has developed and facilitated numerous community-based theatre projects throughout much of Canada and internationally (Ethiopia, Jamaica). She has also facilitated programs on Creative Arts Facilitation and Community-Based Arts Training in multiple contexts including the Tatamagouche Centre, the Maritime School of Social Work and the Arts Engage conference (held 2010 in Halifax).
Tessa has taught courses on popular theatre, developmental theatre and theatre as a tool for critical literacy at Memorial, Acadia and Dalhousie Universities and in the Graduate Education program at Mount Saint Vincent University. She has directed over 25 productions at theatres and universities in Ontario, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland and is currently the co-Artistic Director of a new professional theatre company, Halifax Theatre for Young People.
