Drawing Spirituality with Celtic Knots
September 8, 2012
and/or September 9, 2012
A dot, a line and a square are the keys to learning a
surprisingly simple, accessible method of drawing Celtic
knots – no art training or natural talent required. Use of
this method will open you to an appreciation of knots as
a spiritual meditative practice that is playful and easy, but
also thoughtful – drawing surprising depth and meaning
from connections to the bible, theology and liturgy. It’s
also fun and can just be doodling!
There are two Quiet Day workshops: attend either one
or both together. The Saturday workshop (Level 1:
Introduction) is focused on establishing ease and
familiarity with a basic repertoire of interlace/knotwork.
The Sunday workshop (Level 2: Intermediate) explores
more complex variations, with closer attention to ways
that knotwork is capable of disclosing insight and
meaning hidden in the enormous collection of examples
from the religious and secular historical record.
Familiarity
with Level 1 introduction required for Sunday.
Led by Brian Dench, author of the
The Knotty Book
a graphic designer and former president of the
Calligraphic Arts Guild of Toronto.
Attend either day or both. Begins at
9:30 am with gathering for coffee; ends
4 pm. Fee: $25/day ($15 for Associates
and Oblates) if you bring a bag lunch.
A hot meal is an additional $15. Fee for
staying overnight (including meals)
and attending both sessions is $125.
