Recovering Advent

Sponsored by the Institute for Pastoral Leadership

Dec 1-2, 2011

Princeton Theological Seminary’s School of Christian Vocation and Mission

Overview

The Psalmist yearned for God: “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God” (Psalm 42:1). Do you yearn for God that intensely? Or is your thirst for God obscured by other desires, disappointments, distractions, and demands? Advent offers the opportunity to make space in our lives for the God who is always coming to us, seeking our attention and devotion, offering us new life. Enter Advent before facing the onslaught of the culture’s Christmas. Join us for thoughtful discussion, silence, and contemplative prayer.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

1.Enter Advent consciously and prayerfully.

2.Step out of the rush of the season.

3.Enter into contemplative openness to God’s gift.

4.Find refreshment for their souls.
