Our Life in Worship / Our Life in the World with Marty Haugen

SCRIPTURE SCHOLAR Walter Brueggemann says that in worship, Christians participate with God in “world-making” – imagining God’s radical alternative vision and proclaiming it to a culture of violence, oppression and greed.

Our stories, songs, prayers and actions within worship shape our beliefs, our relationships, and our actions in the world.

How does our worship help or hinder us as a pilgrim community of believers seeking to be living witnesses of the Gospel to a culture often at odds with the teachings and vision of Jesus and his Reign?

MARTY HAUGEN is a liturgical composer and workshop presenter. For the past 30 years, he has presented workshops and concerts across North and Central America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim.

He has over 400 pieces of music available through GIA Publications, including such songs as “Shepherd Me, O God,” “Gather Us In” and “All Are Welcome.”

Marty’s music is found in hymnals and supplements for many denominational groups including the ELCA and ELCIC (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and Canada), the United Methodist Church, the Presbyterian Church USA, the Mennonite Brethren, the United Church of Christ, the United Church of Canada, the Anglican Church of Canada.

As well as in Canada and the United States, Marty’s hymnals are used in Great Britain, Ireland and Australia.
