From last session of 4-part series Journey Toward an Undivided Life:
“This series is simply transformative. I didn’t know what to expect. This so exceeded my expectations, and the four-time meeting format was simply life-changing. “ Something that worked well for me was “that it was offered during a year in a 4x format worked beautifully to structure my sabbatical year. That Valerie is, like Parker Palmer, someone who followed a call out of a high-powered profession helped me see a whole other life path and how it works.”
“When I first heard about the series, I was intrigued but uncertain. This was a large commitment of time and money. It turned out to be more than worth it.”
“Valerie is specially gifted as a facilitator. I could not have imagined such a soulful outcome as I’ve experienced here.”
“It’s a wonderful series – coming back multiple times makes a big difference.” I am taking away “transformation in process – big changes in my life – in part facilitated by what happened in Circles of Trust.”
I am coming away with “a renewed sense of purpose with my work, deeply need changes are happening a feeling and experience of community, which hopefully will continue.”

Developed by Parker J. Palmer and the Center for Courage & Renewal®, this retreat series explores issues of transition, vocation, passion, life purpose, meaning, direction, and underlying life patterns to help us live in greater alignment with our values, reconnecting who we are with what we do. In a safe and nurturing environment, we allow the noise around us to subside to hear our own inner voice. Using seasonal metaphors, we explore the wholeness of our lives, engaging poetry and prose, nature, small and large group discussion, personal reflection, journaling, and mindfulness practices to foster renewal, courage, and trust. Retreatants are invited to participate in clearness committees, a Quaker communal process that helps individuals reach clarity around difficult life decisions.
Journey Toward Wholeness is designed as a four-part Courage & Renewal® Retreat Series, in which participants build a community of trust that encourages everyone to explore life issues deeply. To accomplish this, participants register for the entire series and commit to being present for each of the four seasonal retreats.
